Janet Fulton, percussion
Janet has been the principal percussionist of Manchester Camerata for over 25 years and plays regularly with other orchestras including the Hallé, with which she toured Hong Kong and Spain in 2011. She performs as a soloist and has given recitals at the Bridgewater Hall where she appeared alongside Evelyn Glennie two years ago in Bartok’s Concerto for two pianos and percussion.
She conducts ensembles, youth orchestras and the Manchester Deaf Orchestra. She tutors for the National Youth Brass Band GB and at York and York St John Universities. Janet is deeply committed to exploring the potential of music therapy for diverse groups of children and adults incuding those with dementia.
She works as an animateur throughout the North of England and in Wales for a variety of organisations and leads workshops which help teachers to incorporate music into cross-curricula activities as well as workshops for the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.
Another aspect of her interests is composing mainly for children and the Methodist Church. She has also been invited to perform for CD recordings.
In 2011 Janet became a vice president of Sowerby Music Society in recognition of her support for Music for Life over 19 years.
